Wolf Range and Oven Service in Fall City

The Landing on the Snoqualmie

Fall City began in 1856 as The Landing: the shallows and rapids upstream were more than the big dugout canoes carrying goods up the Snoqualmie could pass, so cargo came ashore here. It never incorporated. SR 202 runs through the middle on its way along the valley and meets SR 203 heading north. In a settlement this old the Wolf range is often younger than the house around it, and a fault can trace back to what the kitchen refit changed rather than to the range.

What a refit changes around the range

What we measure in a remodelled Fall City kitchen comes from Wolf’s own documents: the dual fuel installation guide and the burner troubleshooting pages.

• The anti-tip device. A range slid out for new flooring or cabinets must have its anti-tip device engaged again when it goes back, and Wolf’s guide says not to run the range without it. A range that rocks, or sits proud of the new counter, is one sign the bracket and the new floor no longer agree.
• The riser. Against a combustible surface, Wolf requires a riser of at least 10 inches on a 36-inch dual fuel range with a charbroiler or griddle, and on every 48- and 60-inch dual fuel model. New wood panelling behind the range brings that rule into play.
• The shut-off valve. Wolf wants an approved gas shut-off near the range, where it can be reached. New cabinetry that boxes it in breaks that rule, and we will say so rather than work around it.
• Dust. While the work is still going on, orange flames are expected. Wolf names paint fumes, staining, drywall compound and floor sanding as causes, so let the air clear before booking a visit for flame colour alone.

If the hood was part of the job, two more things get checked early. Wolf does not recommend a GFCI on its indoor hoods and warns that one may interrupt operation, and it asks for rigid metal duct only, never flexible metal. A hood that cuts out at random since the remodel, or moves less air than it used to, is read against both.

The oven door after a move

To lighten a range for a doorway, Wolf allows the oven door to come off, but only in the hands of an installer or service technician, and never carried by its handle. Refitting means sliding the door back onto its hinges, turning both hinge locks all the way back and replacing the screws. When an oven door closes unevenly or will not seal after the kitchen was redone, the hinges are where we start.
