- Hood runs but steam still hangs over the cooktop
- Airflow, not motor failure. Loaded baffle filters, a damper that is not opening fully, crushed or over-long ducting, or a make-up air problem in a tightly sealed newer home. Diagnosis follows the duct, not the switch.
- Rattle or grinding at higher speeds
- Blower wheel out of balance, a bearing on the way out, or something loose in the housing. It gets louder and then it seizes. Worth doing before the motor takes the control with it.
- Hood lights flicker or a whole bank is out
- If new lamps did not fix it, the fault is in the lighting transformer, the dimming control or a corroded socket — grease and heat are hard on those contacts over time.

A whole bank of hood lights was out and new lamps changed nothing. The lighting transformer had failed. He found a corroded socket on the same run and replaced that too.

Grinding noise once it got past second speed. The blower wheel was out of balance and the bearing was going. New blower assembly, and the ceiling trim went back neatly. Costly part, though.

Controls did nothing at all and I assumed the motor had gone. It was the speed control board. Booked it in the evening, seen the next morning, and he had the board on the van.
