Seven villages, more than one kind of kitchen

Providence Point is built as seven villages beside Laughing Jacobs Creek, and the city notes that each one offers its own choice of home and architectural style. There is no single Providence Point kitchen, then. One house may have a freestanding Wolf range, the next a cooktop in the counter with a wall oven built into the cabinets below or beside it. Knowing which you have before the visit matters, because the parts, the checks and even where we look for the model number all change with it.

Controls, doors and the everyday faults

The faults that wear on you most are the ones met at every meal: a touch panel that ignores a press, an oven door that drops open or no longer closes snugly against its seal, an oven that seems to take longer to heat than it used to.

Before booking for the first of those, rule out the lock. On a current Wolf dual-fuel range the control lock is there to stop the panel responding, and Wolf’s use and care guide releases it by touching and holding Lock for three seconds. A lock you rely on will also need setting again after a power cut. If the panel still ignores you once the lock is off, the fault is ours to find.

A door that falls open instead of holding its angle, or one that no longer meets the gasket evenly, points first to the hinges or the gasket rather than to the oven’s heating. That is worth fixing early, because a door that does not seal lets heat escape around its edges.

Reading the tag before we come

Where the model and serial live depends on the appliance. On an E Series wall oven, open the door and look below the control panel on the right. On an M Series it sits near the bottom trim on the left, on the lower oven of a double. A cooktop carries its tag underneath, so for one of those the purchase paperwork will do instead. Read the numbers to Summit Cooking Appliance Service on (425) 272-6613 when you book, and mention which village and where parking sits. The $89 visit can then go straight to the fault.
