Side Panels Scorching Beside the Range

Short answer

Darkened or blistered cabinet panels beside a Wolf range mean combustible material is getting too hot. Either the space around the range is tighter than Wolf's installation drawing allows, or the range is leaking heat where it should not. Stop using it until someone has measured. Two places the heat can come from

Scorch marks settle one question at once: heat has reached wood. Which of the two routes it took is what the measuring decides.

Wolf’s dual-fuel installation guide shades a zone above the countertop where combustible material may not sit at all, and sizes the opening to the range’s own width. Remodels are where kitchens drift from that drawing: a wall cabinet added lower for storage, a shorter hood, or a larger range with a charbroiler dropped into an opening planned for a smaller one.

When the fit measures right

If every clearance checks out, the heat is the range’s. An oven door hanging out of line or a gasket no longer sealing lets heat escape from the front, and Wolf notes that wide pans can make surrounding surfaces very hot. Before you book

Switch the range off and let it cool, then note where the marks are (side panel, wall cabinet underside or back wall) and photograph them.

With a tape, measure from the countertop to the underside of the wall cabinets either side and to the bottom of the hood, and write the figures down.

Clear wooden boards, towels and anything else that burns away from the range. Wolf asks for the area around the appliance to be kept free of combustible material.

Questions

Is a scorched cabinet side actually dangerous?

It can be. Darkened or bubbled wood next to a range has been heated beyond what its finish tolerates, and wood that keeps being heated is a fire risk. Stop using the range, keep the area clear of anything that burns, and have the clearances measured before you cook on it again.

Who fixes this: you or a cabinetmaker?
